Experiments with untruth: Asatya meva jeyathe!

Experiments with untruth: Asatya meva jeyathe!

It’s really strange, indeed! The same word gives happiness to one and creates unknown fear in another one’s mind. That’s nothing but sn sites! (fb, orkut or my space). When your siblings are mentioning their net friends, you can see hundred watts brightness in their faces. That seems to be great but at the same time we can say, “Sleeping with the enemy”! In this fast techie world, there is no use in cursing the advancement of technology, the best way is to learn the game. As told in football, offence is the best form of defense!

I had a chat with my friend, who is having teen children, to know how he is tackling this new “war”. Some new ideas crept in. frankly speaking no body is comfortable in running behind the back or peeping through their shoulders. Children also don’t like this kind of “online policing”. He also joined the same network of his daughter and befriended with her. In this way he kept a check on her network and at the same time without hurting her.

First I didn’t accept his logic. Is it not cheating? Is it not a honest lie? Then he explained in some cases where truth hurts, lies can be used, if it doesn’t harm. In thirukkural(a tamil book written by saint thiruvalluvar about 1000 years ago!).Lie can take the place of truth; if it does not harm any body rather does some good thing. (So girls be careful while writing scrap books,chatting,etc..some known person may be in your network! ). Like that I read one incident in the press, in u.k., one colin mary(face book name#) wrote in her scrap book, like this” I am doing the nonsense job under the idiot”. Under this her boss John Howard wrote like this “thanks Mary for all the work you have done. You are relieved from doing the nonsense job now on wards and got relieved from the idiot also”. No need to say, she was fired!!

So as per him, lie is also part of our life. (As usual) one research conducted on this subject. The researchers took lot of pain and came out with startling statistics. As per the report, men tell around 1092 lies per year. (Approximately 3 lies per day!) And surprisingly women tell around 742 lies per year.(comes around 2 per day!!).

If we study the situations, men lie under the following conditions.

Ø For Attending drinks parties
Ø For not attending the calls from wife
Ø For coming late.

In the case of women,

Ø I don’t know where I have kept that thing
Ø I am having headache. I don’t remember

In one of my friend’s family, after marriage, the boy asked the usual question, like whether you had an affair with somebody, because he had one such before marriage. To become honest, the poor girl revealed that. That’s it. For acting honestly the girl was penalized. So we need not be honest all the times!
In normal life also how many of us dare to tell our boss, that we want leave because of seeing last night foot ball match? We have to use false sickness (or same old lie of grand mother serious?!!). The old saying of satya meva jayathe , ie. Truth always triumphs.. Is just a myth? Or it’s just an adaptative capability of the great human race?

Amongst the sea animals, cleverest one is dolphin. It just escapes from its own species (jaws) and the dangerous enemy (Human beings) by maintaining friendship. Should we become human dolphins to sustain in the world?

Then what’s the fate of “good” and “fair” relationship? If situations start changing our policy, won’t they become our boss? ..If the “true “lies” become the order of the day, where truth will hide? Before these questions tighten my neck, will you relieve me?!

Minu and Paul : a strange love story

Minu and Paul : a strange love story
Love is a strange thing. It may happen with anybody. Between living and nonliving thing, living things, the way of expressing love may differ.

If a question is put forward to everybody that who has become the “famous” personality of the year? I am sure out of 10 people at least 6 would choose to answer “Paul” (the psychic octopus). Though German people initially loved him, started hating him later (and some body is ready for the kill too!). Expecting something from somebody and if we could not get that from, love becomes hate. Then what kind of love is that?. ”He” may not be aware of his popularity, but should be enjoying the stardom. Though using animals or birds in the prediction may not be new thing, the extraordinary popularity might have developed some kind of jealously or curious love in the minds of other “seniors” in this field.

In this context my mind went back by 30 years (oops. . . I have revealed by age!!).The day I met her, got flashed before me. “She” is Minu. She had pretty looks, charming nose and more than that intelligent brain too. (That’s the surprising element of all!). Who ever sees her, definitely will fall in “love” with her. Whether it may be for her welcome “Vango” (please come!), or asking your welfare”sowkiyama?”(Are you fine?!).She is my neighbor’s life and soul. After my school time is over, I used to rush to my neighbors house to see Minu. In the first meeting of the day she used to say” Sairam..” (my neighbour was a sai devotee)and force us to repeat the same. After that she used to ask affectionately “saptacha..(Have u taken the food)”.I didn’t ask the same to her. Her food was simple only. I could not pass even a single day without seeing her. My day started with her “sairam” and ended with her” sairam”. What kind of relation is that? I was not matured enough to realize that.(if you have time please go to the first para.. other wise continue!!)

The day had come to go part. Union is joyful but parting is painful; isn’t it! My neighbor got transferred to Bombay. (Mumbai now!) And I bid adieu with tears. For some days I used to stare at the vacant house. I felt as if my Minu is telling “Sairam”, my lips used to murmur at the unmanned place. Days rolled by. My neighbor visited my village after 6 months. I hesitantly asked “how is Minu?”. Silence was his answer and eyelids became wet. My heart skipped a beat, “have I asked anything wrong?”. No.. She is no more. After landing in Bombay one day, she took what she should not have been eaten. That’s it. Now it’s my turn to wet my eyelids. I left that place. Two days I cried silently. What may be the reason? The separation (?!) or climate, food what ever it may be. I stopped going to the temple for some time. (ttchhh.. I became too much emotional!!) Keeping Minu’s story apart we will come to our story.

If the Paul is for western countries, Killi(the parrot) from killinochi for eastern countries. She predicted the victory of Netherlands in the final. After hearing the story of Paul, she might have wished to have a date with Paul. (The unfulfilled dream!!).Meanwhile talks are going on to arrange a world wide tour of Paul.(His days are numbered. Only six months left for his departure from earth!!).As usual I put my “tentacles” (what a comparison!) to roll over Paul’s India visit.

Ofcourse some political questions are in my mind like,

v Will Manmohanji contain the price rise
1. Within this year 2. never

v Rahul will become PM in the year
1. 2011 2.2016

v Kashmir problem will be solved
1. within 5 years 2. Within 10 years

One more question is there, if I ask Paul will be fainted, so I have decided to skip that question!!!

Coming to our BM, I have the questions regarding bm.(just 4 J)

v Venkat na will post his Jasmine blog (in any Monday!!)
1. 2010 2.2011

v Durgesh’s next blog will be about
1. Spiritual 2. spice girls

v How many (useful!!) blogs vishy will post in a day (as a record?)
1.10 2. 20

v Arunji’s next blog will be about
1. Alphabet games 2. Tips to become active member

v Batches in mates will become ‘batchmates’ in
1. 2010 2.2011

Finally…

v BM will get a facelift and overtake fb in
1. near future 2. Never!!!

I am sure if I ask all these questions, Paul has to spend his life in India itself!!(What an idea!!)

Ok.. “Pals” have you any question for Mr. Paul? (so that I will forward to him and get an answer!!)

A bird’s eye view of the sky: Executive decision

A bird’s eye view of the sky: Executive decision

“IND AIR 168 CHENNAI RADAR, TURN RIGHT HEADING THREE FIVE FIVE, CLIMB TO FLIGHT LEVEL THREE SIX ZERO. TRAFFIC 10’O CLOCK SAME DIRECTION THREE ZERO MILES JET AIRWAYS BOEING SEVEN THREE SEVEN. MAINTINING FLIGHT LEVEL THREE FOUR ZERO.”

“CHENNAI RADAR IND AIR 168 TRAFFIC ON TEECAAS, HEADING THREE FIVE FIVE CLIMBING TO FLIGHT LEVEL THREE SIX ZERO”

This is the typical conversation heard in the cockpit, while you sip the hot coffee served by the airhostess, relaxing in the comforts of the air-conditioned cabin of the aircraft flying at a height of 30,000 feet. The conversation is between Air Traffic Controller (ATC) and the pilot-in-command. ATC is advising the pilot of the flight IC 168, to turn the direction of the flight to 355 degrees and then climb to a height of 36,000 ft and also he is cautioning the pilot about a traffic viz jet airways Boeing 737 flying at a height of 34000 ft and is just 30 nautical miles (approx 48 km) away in the direction of 10’o clock and is flying in the same direction. The pilot reported that he had monitored the Jet Airways Boeing 737 in his traffic collision Avoidance System and he will comply with the instructions.

Air traffic controller’s tension starts when your tension stops. You will rush to the airport to catch the flight, will hurriedly do the X-ray scanning so that you can check-in fast and after immigration, customs and security checks are done, you will impatiently wait for the boarding. Once you board the flight and fasten the seat belt and feel relaxed. That very moment the air traffic controllers’ tension starts. When the door closes, Pilot informs the ATC that he is ready to start. From that very moment till the aircraft lands and switches off its engine, your flight adds to the already crowded airspace of fast moving aircraft and its safety lies in the hands of the ATC.

The sky is crowded with massive high speed criss-cross moving aircraft which weigh 400000 kg and move at the speed of 1000 kmph, which can not stop in the air or reduce speed considerably while flying. In a day, about five thousand aircraft uses Indian airspace. Because of the high speed, Pilot will get only few seconds to take action to avoid another aircraft which is coming on collision course and this is hardly sufficient. Moreover,. Jet flights which fly at a height of 30000 ft, and above do not fly on visual reference to gound but by means of instruments. Hence a pilot will not even know about other aircraft approaching to it. In the above mentioned case, the aircraft are flying at 800 km per hour, i.e. 140 km per minute. So you can imagine the difference of 48km will be passed in twenty seconds!! You can imagine the speed and reaction time given to the pilot & controllers to react, in case of error.

To add to the complexity entire airspace is not available for civil aviation use. In addition to the sensitive airspaces which are prohibited, there are other airspaces used by space centre for rocket launching. Military, for firing artillery; air force for their flying activities. The airspace is criss-crossed with air routes. International as well as domestic. International routes are used by international flights and domestic routes are used only by domestic flights. Like highways, there are routes with heavy traffic, there are busy junctions where routes converge, and there are routes where maximum facilities like navigational facilities are available.

After reading this one question might have come to your mind. Who is the Air Traffic Controller? If you search in google you will get lot of definitions. But the definition given by Randolph F.Kritzer about profession in Air Traffic Control is very interesting.

“ A profession in which persons of Definable intestinal fortitude; unlimited ability to correlate masses of confusing numbers, figures, rules and statistics both defined and infinite in their change; the caliber and character associated with the most demanding discipline and integrity and resolve to their job unmatched by the vast majority; daily accept with enthusiasm normally associated with pleasure rather than work, the responsibility of insuring the safe passage through unfriendly and crowded skies, the immeasurable assets represented by multi-million dollar aircraft and the multitude of lives contained in these fragile ships of the skies. To be Air traffic controller is to be proud, arrogant, bold and may be a little foolish. But I would not be anything else”.

Yes.. That is the least known profession in the world. But in terms of significance, it’s the most significant one next to doctor’s profession. We also call a movement (either arrival or departure) as “operation”. Its nothing less significant than the one performed by a surgeon. In that operation, the doctor is saving one life, but we have to take care of 800 lives at a time.

You may think why the point is stressed now. Reason is there. October 20th is celebrated as World ATC day; in another words it’s the international day of Air Traffic Controllers.

So next time you board a flight, please remember that not only pilots but also there is one community so called Air Traffic Controllers who ensure your safety in the skies and takes care of you till you land in your destination;
will you do ?
